The Swing Bed Program at Calais Community Hospital provides continued skilled nursing care and rehabilitation for patients who no longer require acute hospital care but are not yet ready to safely return home. Located on our Medical-Surgical Unit, the program allows patients to continue their recovery in a familiar, local setting while receiving the care and therapy they need to regain strength and independence.
Our compassionate team works closely with you and your family to develop an individualized plan of care based on your specific needs and recovery goals. A multidisciplinary team—including the hospitalist, registered nurses, rehabilitation therapists, case management, pharmacy, dietary, and other healthcare professionals as needed—works together to provide coordinated, patient-centered care throughout your stay.
Our goal is to help you recover to your highest level of function and independence. Services are provided until your condition has stabilized, your rehabilitation goals have been met, or you are ready to return home or transition to another level of care.
Patients who may benefit from the Swing Bed Program include those who require:
- Wound care or complex dressing changes
- Pain management
- Intravenous (IV) medications or nutritional therapy
- Rehabilitation following surgery, including joint replacement or other orthopedic, vascular, or abdominal procedures
- Continued recovery after hospitalization for a medical illness or injury
- Daily physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy
- Ongoing skilled nursing care and monitoring before returning home
